    Director, Touro Institute on Human Rights and the Holocaust

    A Canadian lawyer and scholar of international human rights law and antisemitism. She is a professor at Touro and directs its Institute on Human Rights and the Holocaust, has taught at York University, the University of Ottawa and Columbia Law School, and served on Canadian delegations to the UN General Assembly and the UN Human Rights Commission. IBSI described her at the time as having led the fight against the UN's anti-Zionist agenda since Durban in 2001.

The UN Human Rights Council had opened a commission of inquiry into Israel with no end date and a mandate reaching back before 1948 — and a submissions process that let anyone upload material anonymously as evidence. AIC’s own summary at the time set out what it expected the inquiry to be used for: an apartheid finding, referrals to the International Criminal Court, a case for global BDS, and an arms embargo.

Anne Bayefsky has been arguing against the UN’s treatment of Israel for two decades, and came with a strategy rather than a complaint.
