A morning at the Georgia State Capitol lobbying for the state's hate-crimes bill, HB 426, alongside an interfaith coalition.

Georgia was one of the last states in the country without a hate-crimes law. On the morning of 26 February 2020 a coalition of Jewish and non-Jewish organizations gathered in downtown Atlanta, walked to the State Capitol, and spent four hours putting that to legislators in person.

The ask was HB 426, which would cover bias crimes based on religion, race, colour, national origin, sexual orientation, gender or disability. The coalition also asked legislators to oppose SB 368, which would have let adoption agencies taking public money turn away religious and other minorities.

Tzedek Georgia, the Jewish Community Relations Council, the Georgia Interfaith Public Policy Center, the ADL and Georgia Equality were all in the room. Georgia passed its hate-crimes law that June.
