    A commentator, educator, and activist. Club Z, which she founded in 2011, connects teenagers to Israel, Jewish history, Zionism, and one another.

  • Daniel Koren

    Executive Director, Hasbara Fellowships Canada

    A longtime Jewish community professional with a background in journalism and communication, he has made the case for Israel on radio, on television, in print, on campuses, and on social media.

Equipping Students with Knowledge and Skills was the Fighting Back web talk about the young: what a Jewish student needs to know, and needs to be able to do, when Jew-hatred turns up at school. The Canadian Antisemitism Education Foundation ran it on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at 2 p.m. Eastern, and AIC was one of its co-sponsors.

Both guests worked with exactly those students. Masha Merkulova grew up in the Soviet Union not knowing she was Jewish. Asking who she was brought her to Zionism, which she came to see as a movement for justice, and in 2011 she founded Club Z to give teenagers a way into Israel, Jewish history, and Zionism. Daniel Koren was born in Israel and grew up in Toronto, and as executive director of Hasbara Fellowships Canada he taught Jewish kids why the Jewish people’s self-determination in their own land matters.

Club Z and Hasbara Fellowships Canada were co-sponsors too, on a flyer that also carried The Lawfare Project, End Jew Hatred Canada, and the North Carolina Coalition for Israel.
